P A I N T I N G S

2013 – 2018

PAINTING IS A WINDOW INTO AN ARTIST’S SOUL. I THINK THAT IS WHY MANY OF MINE; ARE HILLY LANDS AND FAIRY LANDS, SUCH LANDSCAPE WHERE CLOUDS ARE MINGLING AND MY OILS ARE TRAPPED LIGHTS. THEY ARE ALL DRIVEN FROM AN EMOTIONAL AND PERSONAL PERSPECTIVE, THERE ARE FEW OBSERVATIONS INCLUDED BUT MAINLY EVERYTHING IS TAKEN FROM MY PAST AND MY THOUGHTS. THE COMPOSITIONS ARE THE EXPRESSION OF FEELINGS. THE ARTIST ”SPEAKS” BECAUSE HE CAN’T CONTAIN IT AND IT HAS LEAVE HIS MIND IN ORDER FOR HIM REST AND GO ON AS AN OVERWHELMING EMPTINESS THAT HAS TO BE FULFILLED.

A GREETING CARD AN INVITATION FOR DISCUSSION A LETTER OF MELANGE.

WHEN PUCCINI WROTE MADAM BUTTERFLY, HE NEVER WENT TO JAPAN, AT THE TIME HE LIVED IN ITALY BY A LAKE AND HIS PRELUDIO TO THE OPERA TELLS A STORY AND SOUND OF THE WATER, I FIND IT TO BE A BEAUTIFUL METHAPHOR FOR HIM DIVING, SUBMERGING HIMSELF INTO THE STORY OF HIS IMAGINATION, A SORT OF DAYDREAMING. THAT ENCAPSULATES GREAT ART AND THAT IS A GREAT PAINTING, SET IN A LANDSCAPE OF YOUR IMAGINATION, TO CREATE THE WIND AMONGST THE REEDS.

ONE CAN HOPE THE WORK WILL RESONATE WITH ANOTHER SOUL AS VIBRATION CROSS THE STRING, THAT CAUSES A NOTE TO SOUND.

A BLACK PAINTING, THE DARKNESS IS THE FIRST DOOR –TO DREAMS OR DEATH, A PATHWAY OR PASSAGE, NONE THE LESS, PEOPLE ARE AFFRAID OF THE DARKNESS AND THEREFORE NEED TO EXPLORE IN ORDER TO BE COMFORTABLE WITH ONES OWN EXISTENCE, AND BE COMFORTABLE WITH ONES OWN THOUGHTS.

SOMETIMES WE DON’T KNOW WHAT WE ARE OBSERVING OR UNDERSTAND WHAT IT IS WE ARE LOOKING AT, BUT YOU ALREADY HAVE A OPINION TOWARDS WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT, WE ARE ALREADY IN AN ACTIVE RELATIONSHIP WITH THE PAINTING, IT IS UP TO YOU TO LOOK INTO YOU PSYCHE, YOUR OWN PSYCHOLOGICAL PROCESSES TO REVIEW THE MEANING FOR YOU, IT MEANS THAT WE HAVE TO WORK A LITTLE HARDER AS THE VIEWER.

WHY CREATE? CREATE TO SURVIVE, HOW TO DEAL WITH LIFE.

TO INVENT AN ILLUSION MORE BAREBLE TO LIVE IN THAN THE WORLD THAT EXISTS AROUND YOU.

ART DOSEN’T NEED A LANGUAGE,
ART IS OFTEN REFERED TO AS SOMETHING THAT HAS TO DO WITH CHILDHOOD; ”O A CHILD COULD HAVE MADE THAT”...

I FIND THAT QUITE FACINATING AND INTRIGUING, BECAUSE BEING A CHILD HAS ITS STRENGHS, THEY ARE NOT STUPID, THEY OBSERVE AND UNDERSTAND, AND THE CHILDHOOD ECHOES THROUGHOUT ONES WHOLE LIFE, ALSO A CHILD CAN HAVE PROBLEMS COMMUNICATING ITS THOUGHTS OR NEEDS, WHERE IN THEY CAN USE CRAYONS AS A MEDIUM, AS A BLIND PERSON USES A CANE, BUT MAINLY AND MOST IMPORTANTLY THERE IS A CERTAIN HONESTY WOVEN INTO THE ACT ITSELF.

A LOT OF MY WORK DOUBTS AND DEAL WITH THE SUBJECTS AND HOW TO DEAL WITH BEING AN ADULT WITH THE ECHOES OF A MISFORTUNATE CHILDHOOD, A ROBBED CHILDHOOD, FORCED TO BECOME THE GROWN UP.
ART IS MY THEARAPY AND MY ODE TO CHILDHOOD.

TO USE THE WORDS OF GREAT FICTIONAL COMPOSER – GUSTAV VON ASCHENBACH: ”ART IS THE HIGHEST FORM OF EDUCATION”

BY THOMAS MAN’S DEATH IN VENICE. AND WITHIN SUCH STRONG WORDS AND A BOLD STATEMENT; I CONCUR...

HOWEVER I HAVE MY OWN INTERPRETATION, I DO NOT HAVE ANY GREAT EDUCATION, NOR WAS I GOOD WHILE I WENT, BUT I HAD AN URGE, A NEED TO CREATE AND IT TOOK ME A LONG TIME TO ACTUALLY RESOLVE AND FIGURE OUT WHAT MY STORY WOULD BE, THE STATEMENT TO ME INDICATES A CURIOSITY, A POSSIBLE EPIPHANY. FOR ME IT WAS A TIME OF DARKNESS, STUCK IN A TUNNEL WITH NO WALLS, THERE WASN’T ENOUGH LETTERS IN ANY ALPHABET THAT COULD DECRIBE HOW I FELT, AND I GUESS ART WAS THE MEANS AS WELL AS THE DISTRACTION, WHICH WAS A SELF EDUCATION, YOU HAVE TO KNOW WHO YOU ARE TO CONTINUE – TO KNOW WHERE YOU COME FROM TO KNOW WHERE YOU ARE GOING. NOW AFTER THESE MANY YEARS OF EXPLORING ART, ART HAS LEAD ME TO ENDLESS SUBJECTS SUCH AS POLITICS, ECONOMY, RELIGION, LOVE, COMPASSION AND ADMIRATION TO THINGS I DID NOT CARE FOR BEFORE, AN UNDERSTANDING OF MINORITIES, EVEN HUMOUR AND SO ON. ART HAS TAUGHT ME MUCH ABOUT MYSELF, AND DESPITE THE MISERIES OF THINKING YOU ARE SOMEWHAT ORIGINAL, AND YOU ARE FEELING AN ECSTACY OF JOY, WHEREAFTER REALISING SOMEBODY ELSE DID IT 30 YEARS BEFORE, I NOW SEE THAT AS THERE IS A LINK AND I’M LESS ALONE THAN I THOUGHT I WAS.

THE MORE WE KNOW, THE LESS WE KNOW
THE WORLD IS SO SIMPLE, THERE IS NO GOOD NO BAD, EVRYTHING HAS BECOME A RELATIVE TRUTH

REFELECTION IS AN IMPORTANT WORD IN ART I FEEL, THERE IS SELF-REFELCTION IN ONES OWN WORK AS AN ARTIST, BUT ALSO IF YOU ALLOW YOURSELF TO TAKE THE TIME TO REFLECT ON THE WORK YOU ARE OBSERVING OR STUDY AND THOSE INTERNAL STUDIES QUITE FREQUENTLY CAN MAKE YOUR BRAIN THINK ABOUT SOMETHING YOU HAVENT THOUGHT OF BEFORE, WHICH IS SOMEHOW VERY POETIC AND ALSO A RELIEF TO BE SAVED FROM THE EVERYDAY MEDIOCRITY, AND DESTRUCTIVE THOUGHTS ONE MAY BE HANGING ON TO.

AS CARL ANDRE IS SAYING: ”WHEN KIDS START TO LEARN HOW TO READ THEY STOP MAKING ART, EVERYTHING HAS TO MEAN SOMETHING”.

ART IS A SERIOUS PLAY, AND REGARDING THE FUTURE I’M AFRAID THAT THERE WILL BE LESS PLAY, AND WORSE CASE SCENARIO LESS ART, HOWEVER NOW I SEE A REVOLUTION COMING, HOPE IS OUR GODDESS.

IF ART IS A NARRATIVE, DOCUMENTATION AND REFLECTION OF THE TIME WE LIVE, ISN’T IT QUITE LIMITING AND RESTRICTING, I WILL SPEAK TO OUR INNER WORLD AND EMOTIONS. EXPRESSING THE INEXPRESSIBLE.
AS IN PAINTING A PHYSICAL FORM AND SHAPE CAN EXPRESS THINGS NOT FROM THIS WORLD AND SPEAKS DIRECTLY TO THE INNER.

A PAINTING IS AN EPIC, A POEM INVOLVING A STORY, AN ELGY, AN ODE, A MEMORY GRADUALLY BUILT UP IN THE SIMILAR WAY TO A SYMPHONY OR SONATA WITH AN ADAGIO, ALLEGRO, ANDANTE AND SCHERZO. A PAINTING TELLS A STORY IF YOU ALLOW IT. A GATEWAY TO THE MIND BOTH FOR THE VIEWER AND THE CREATER. AN EXPLORATION OF A NEVER ENDING TALE, OR THE FEELING OF FINDING YOURSELF IN THEE SECRET GARDEN, MAYBE SURROUNDED BY UTTER SILENCE OR THE INTERRUPTIONS FROM YOUR OWN MIND.

THE POWER OF GREAT MUSIC LIES IN THE ABSENCE OF MUSIC, THAT IS WHERE THE PAINTING IS.

A PAINTING AS WELL AS A DRAWING IS THE FIRST MEAN TO SET YOU SOUL FREE, A PORTRAYAL OF A MOMENT IN A SYMPHONY, A SOUND CAPTURED THE WAY YOU TAKE A PHOTO.

FROM THE CREATION TO THE RESULT IS ENDLESLY COMPELLING.

SCULPTURE ARE THE INSTRUMENTS OF ARCHITECTURE, THAT PLAY AND FEEL A SPACE, AN EMBODIED FORM OF MUSIC. A PHYSICAL ABSTRACTION OF THE HUMAN MIND. A SCULPTURE IS A VESSEL OF ONES SOUL, AS THE HUMAN BODY IS, IT OCCUPIES SPACE AS A DISTRACTION AND ARCHITECTURAL ELEMENT IN OUR SURROUNDINGS. THE VESSEL OCCOPIES SPACE. THE VESSEL OR SCULPTURE IS AS WELL A HIDING PLACE FOR THE SOUL, A STRAIT JACKET FOR THE SOUL. A DISGUISE WHICH TELLS A DIFFERENT TALE TO EACH VIEWER, AS THE FLOWERS IN A VASE IS WATERED BY THE IMAGINATION.

”WHAT IS SCULPTURE? WITH IMPRESSIVE CONTINUITY IT TESTIFIES TO MAN'S EVOLVING SENSE OF REALITY, AND FULFILS THE NECESSITY TO EXPRESS WHAT CANNOT BE VERBALIZED.
BANISHED FROM PARADISE, MAN FOUND HIMSELF CONFRONTED BY THE SPACE OF THE WORLD. IT WAS A TERRITORY UNKNOWN AND INCONCEIVABLE AS INCONCEIVABLE AS ARE OVERABUNDANCE OR EMPTINESS. HE TRIED TO REACH UNKNOWN POWERS, RAISING STONES, BUILDING AREAS OF SPECIAL MEANING... WITH THE DEVELOPMENT OF SOCIETY, SCULPTURE BEGAN TO VISUALIZE GODS, TO GLORIFY LEADERS, TO COMMEMORATE HISTORY, FINALLY TO DECORATE LIFE. TODAY, WE ARE CONFRONTED WITH THE INCONCEIVABLE WORLD WE OURSELVES CREATED. ITS REALITY IS REFLECTED IN ART.

FROM TIME TO TIME A CIVILIZATION FALLS INTO DISGRACE AND ART IS DESTROYED BY FANATICISM AND WARS. THIS HAPPENS ALSO TODAY. HOWEVER SOME MONUMENTS REMAIN ALONG THE PATH, WHICH FOR HUNDREDS OF CENTURIES WOULD BE OTHERWISE UNMARKED. WITHOUT THESE MILESTONES OF HIS SPIRITUAL ODYSSEY MAN WOULD BE LOST IN DARKNESS.”
